OzymandiasOn this day in 1792, Percy Bysshe Shelley was born. One of the major English Romantic poets, he is regarded by some as among the finest lyric and epic poets in the English language. While he did not see fame during his lifetime, recognition for his poetry grew steadily following his drowning a month before his 30th birthday off the coast of Italy. Shelley was a central figure of a close circle of poets and writers that included Lord Byron and his second wife, Mary Shelley, author of Frankenstein. Shelley is perhaps best known for his classic sonnet Ozymandias, which begins "I met a traveler from and antique land ... "
